Father and son tackle and tie up burglar after they walk in on the thief robbing their apartment John Ashton Sr and Jr returned to their apartment after running errands Friday morning and found burglar had broken in They caught thief in a back bedroom and tackled the 37-year-old suspect to the ground, tied him up and waited for police to arrive Suspect Tyrone Porter was booked in Thurston County Jail, and allegedly told the father and son he 'screwed up' This burglar picked the wrong family to rob. John Ashton Sr and his son John Ashton Jr were fearless when a burglar broke into their apartment in Olympia, Washington last week. The father and son were returning from running errands that morning when they noticed the front door to their apartment was broken open and their home pilfered. They got an even bigger surprise when the burglar himself emerged from a back bedroom, caught in the act. 'I turn that corner and (the burglar)'s standing right in the bedroom,' John Ashton, Jr. told KOMO . 'And his eyes light up. Bing!' The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Tyrone Porter, allegedly apologized to the men at first and promised to return their belongings. But the Ashtons say he quickly changed pace and started running towards an exit. While many would be afraid of confrontation in this kind of situation, Ashton Sr and his son acted quickly and defended their home by tackling Porter to the ground. They continued to struggle with the burglar for several minutes, all while yelling for neighbors to call 911. Eventually they were able to use a sweater and shoelace to tie Porter's legs together and his hand's begins his back while they waited for police to arrive. 'We didn't really want to hurt him, but I wasn't gonna let him go,' Ashton, Sr. said. All the while, Porter pleaded for the men to let him go. 'He would give anything-- money, give everything, 'just don't call the cops' because he's 'going to go away for 20 years,' ' Ashton, Jr. said. As police led Porter out the door, he reportedly looked up at the two men and said: 'Man, I screwed up'. Porter was booked into the Thurston County Jail. The Ashtons were able to recover their belongings, which were stashed in the building's laundry room.
