Egypt warplanes strike ISIL positions in Libya

The Egyptian military has bombarded the ISIL militant positions in Libya. The airstrikes follow the release of an online video showing the execution of a group of Egyptian Coptic Christians by the terrorist group. The footage shows the handcuffed hostages being beheaded on a beach in the Libyan province of Tripoli. The shocking video prompted the Egyptian president to threaten the Takfiri group with suitable punishment. While declaring seven days of mourning for the victims, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that his country reserved the right to punish the perpetrators. Egypt's top Sunni Islamic body, Al-Azhar, has condemned the killings as barbaric. The United Nations and the United States have also issued strong condemnations. A White House spokesman called the bloodshed despicable and cowardly, adding that the latest atrocity will further help the international community unite against the ISIL.
